Excusal / Deferral / Disqualification Request
EXCUSAL / DEFERRAL / DISQUALIFICATION GUIDE
Jury duty is an important part of our judicial system and is the responsibility of every citizen; however, certain circumstances may make serving jury duty an extreme hardship. Juror candidates may submit their request to be excused, deferred or disqualified with documentation to the court for the assigned Judge to consider. All requests are considered on an individual basis and documentation is required as indicated on your summons and in the online system. A juror candidate who has never received a deferral may receive one for 90 days upon request. Any requests for a deferral longer than 90 days or an additional request for deferral would be addressed by the Judge.
All requests must be received no later than 10 business days prior to the report date.
It may take a total of 1-2 weeks time for your request to be processed and for the response to be delivered to the address we have on file.
To enter your request, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Complete the online questionnaire, then go to the appropriate tab and select the option that best fits your request. When you have made your selection for excusal, deferral or disqualification, please read the important information to the right of the selection prior to submitting your request.
Step 2: Provide documentation for your request using the “Submit Documentation for Excusal/Disqualification” Related Link to the left OR fax the documentation to the Jury Department at (321) 637-5482 OR mail to Clerk of the Circuit Court, PO Box 219, Titusville, FL 32781-0219. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CANDIDATE NUMBER (i.e. 0000123456.)
- If you are not excused prior to the appearance date, then you must appear as scheduled.
- If a request is denied by the Judge, there may be another opportunity to be excused prior to being selected as a juror on a particular case on the report date.
